English

In English this term we will be learning about:

Diary Writing

We will be watching the short animation ‘Francis’ and base our diary writing on this story. We will explore suspense writing in the diary and also learn how to write effective news reports on the disappearance of the main character. We will also read extracts of ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘Oliver’ by Charles Dickens. We will explore his use of language and his writing style. We will use our knowledge of Dicken’s characters to write letters; both formally and informally. Our Christmas-themed whole school piece of writing will focus on character and setting descriptions.

This half term, we will also continue to develop our SPAG skills by learning how to use bullet points, different layout and cohesive devices as well as various Alan Peat techniques which will enhance our sentence work.

Maths

In Maths this term we will be learning about:

Multiplication and Division, Fractions and Position and direction.

The following is a list of key areas to be studied:

Fractions:

·         Equivalent fractions

·         Ordering and comparing fractions

·         All four operations

·         Finding fractions of amounts

Position and direction

·         Reading and plotting coordinates

·         Translation of shapes on coordinate grids

·         Reflection of shapes on coordinate grids

Science

In Science this term we will be learning about:

Materials- Properties and changes

We will be exploring the properties of everyday materials and reversible and irreversible changes to them.

We will learn how to determine the hardness, transparency and thermal and electrical conductivity of different materials and link this to their uses.

We will also learn how to demonstrate, identify and describe reversible and irreversible changes.

When working scientifically, we will evaluate the hardness test to determine the degree of trust in the results and plan and draw a table of results.

We will be able to write a prediction using prior knowledge of the states of matter and analyse observations about rusting and use them to support a conclusion.

PSHE: Families and Relationships

RE: Believing - What do religions say to us when life gets hard?  Christians, Hindus and non-religious as well as Harvest and Christmas

PE: Football and also Dance with Ed start

Spanish: Catch-up unit 2 – covering more basics of conversation, numbers and describing friends.

Geography: Where does our energy come from? (Fieldwork - School grounds)

History:  Were the Vikings raiders, traders or something else?
