SEND
Our vision of SEND
At our school we will provide all pupils with access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We are committed to making sure all our pupils have the chance to thrive and supporting them to meet their full potential. We are focused on creating an inclusive environment, where provision is tailored to the needs and abilities of pupils, no matter how varied.
We set suitable learning challenges that appreciate the diverse learning needs of all of our children. We support children to overcome potential barriers to learning and ensure our children are given the tools they need to be successful.
All of our children are given equal opportunities regardless of their differing needs and we aim to give all of our children the opportunity to succeed and reach the highest level of personal achievement. We also believe in early identification of SEND to ensure the best support is in place for children at the earliest opportunity.
Intent
Newhey Community Primary school is dedicated to providing an inclusive learning environment where every pupil, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), has access to a broad and balanced curriculum.
We are committed to identifying and addressing individual needs at the earliest possible stage to ensure all pupils meet their full potential. By setting suitably diverse learning challenges and providing tailored provision, we aim to remove barriers to learning and foster confidence and independence in every child.
We aspire for our pupils with SEND to become confident individuals who live fulfilling lives and are equipped for future success.
Implementation
To deliver on our intent for SEND, our school will:
- Identify needs early: Employ a robust system of observation and assessment, adhering to the national SEND Code of Practice, to identify and address individual needs as early as possible.
- Provide tailored support: Use a graduated approach of assess, plan, do, and review to provide high-quality, differentiated teaching and evidence-based interventions in small groups or one-on-one sessions, as needed.
- Promote inclusion: Ensure all pupils have access to the full curriculum and all aspects of school life, with reasonable adjustments made to the learning environment to promote full engagement.
- Empower pupils: Develop pupils' life skills and independence by encouraging self-worth and creating a secure environment where they can build resilience.
- Collaborate with parents: Maintain strong and consistent communication with parents and carers, actively involving them in discussions and decisions regarding their child's support and provision.
- Work with experts: Collaborate with external agencies and other professionals to enhance and refine the provision for pupils with more complex needs.
- Train staff: Ensure that all staff are trained and equipped to meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEND through ongoing professional development.
- Ensure consistency: Regularly monitor the implementation of the SEND policy to ensure it is consistently understood and applied by all staff
