Year 1 - Our Learning

This term we will be learning about story writing. We will be retelling familiar stories and even writing some of our own stories! Throughout the term the children will also learn about labels, signs, lists and posters, as well as information texts.

We will have daily phonics sessions that will help to improve the children's learning and understanding of phonemes and graphemes. This will be the foundation of their reading and spelling.

We have weekly guided reading sessions where we enjoy reading and answering questions about the different stories that we read. We also practise reading and spelling tricky words.

This term we will be learning lots about place value and how to solve 1 step problems that involve addition and subtraction and use different mathematical language.

We will also be looking at recognising, describing and sorting both 2D and 3D Shapes.

Each child is also working on learning their times tables using TT Rockstars. This is done three times a week using the school Ipads.

In Year 1 this term we are learning all about plants through practical activities and observations. The children will have the opportunity to plant their very own bean seeds and record their growth over the term.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? .... No It's Super Students!

Our topic this term is Superheroes

This will encompass our work in History, Geography, Art and DT.

We have lots of 'super-tastic' activities planned for Year 1 including creating a 3D superhero model out of pipe cleaners and plastercine!
