What does your child experience?
Design Technology is a creative and practical subject. Through innovation and imagination pupils design, make and evaluate their products to solve real and relevant problems in a variety of design briefs. Pupils learn how to:
- Develop, plan and communicate ideas both individually and as part of a team.
- Research, experiment, take risks and problem solve.
- Work safely with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products.
- Test and evaluate products they have made.
Our pupils develop skills and knowledge in each of our Design Technology Key Areas:
-Structures
-Mechanisms/Mechanical Structures
- Electrical Systems (Ks2)
-Cooking and Nutrition
-Textiles
- Digital world (KS2).
Progression
Through a variety of practical and creative activities our pupils are taught the Design Technology curriculum from Early Years through to Year 6.
At Newhey, we follow and adapt Kapow Schemes of Work to suit the needs of our children. This enables them to grow and progress into global citizens of the future.
The following document gives an overview of the skills and knowledge covered in each year group and how these skills develop.
