Ethos & Values

Newhey Community Primary School is an inclusive school, where every child matters. We are committed to raising achievement and we endeavour to help all children attain their full potential by:
- keeping class sizes small
- practising class child centred education
- recognising that all children bring some strengths to the school
- building confidence
- encouraging independent learning and individual initiative
- helping children work alongside each other.
We consider it important that:
- pupils, teachers, all staff, parents, carers and Governors work together
- a broad curriculum is offered which includes National Curriculum, Core and Foundation subjects
- individual achievements are recognised
- no-one is held back because of their sex, class or culture
- children learn about other cultures and racist ideas are countered
- pupils develop good methods of enquiry and problem solving skills
We aim to become an asset to the village and a natural focal point for the community.
We encourage our pupils to care for their environment by showing them that they are part of a wider world in which we all have an interest, and for which we all have a responsibility.
We believe that our school is a friendly, welcoming place - not too formal, with as few rules as possible, in which children respect each other and work in a pleasant atmosphere; a place for quiet thought and lively discussion, with time for work and play to intermingle.
The school would like parents/carers to:
- ensure children attend regularly and are on time
- see themselves as partners with the school in the education of their child
- ensure children complete and return homework to school
- attend the regular parents meetings
- send their child to school in appropriate clothing
- become actively involved in fund raising and social activities
The Governors have formulated a Home-School Agreement which will be sent home for signing at the start of a new school year. All new children and parents are asked to sign the agreement on joining the school.
