Starting School
For the first week parents can choose whether their child attends school full time or part time.
Children who have been used to attending a nursery class on a full time basis are normally ready to attend our Reception Class full time but if you feel your child would settle into school better the choice is available.
All children will have a coat peg marked with their name and a picture so they know which one is theirs. You are welcome to come with your child at first to hang up their coat etc., but we find it better if they are encouraged to do this by themselves after the first week or so.
Most children quickly settle into school life, but don't be surprised if they suddenly become upset in the morning after a couple of weeks. This is quite normal; it is when they realise that school lasts forever!
During the first week at school the children will be given a book to share from the class library. Please read to your child and talk about the pictures and the story. In this first term, we will also send spelling sounds and words to learn.
Please do not force your child when sharing or helping with any of these activities. Remember, lots of short periods of time together are much more beneficial than one long session.
